Bernie Madoff Had A Heart Attack In December
NEW YORK, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Convicted fraudster Bernard Madoff was hospitalized last month for a heart attack, CNBC reported on Wednesday.
Madoff, 75, told CNBC in an email that he had since returned to the federal prison where he is serving a 150-year sentence for masterminding a massive Ponzi scheme that destroyed the lives of thousands of investors. Madoff also said that he suffers from stage-4 kidney disease, but was not undergoing dialysis, the network said.
A spokesman for the prison in Butner, North Carolina, confirmed that Madoff was at the facility but would not confirm that he had been hospitalized.
A spokesman for the Bureau of Prisons in Washington, Ed Ross, said the agency could not comment on inmates' medical conditions, although he said it was "not unusual" for prisoners who require treatment to be sent to local medical facilities.
Ira Lee Sorkin, who defended Madoff against criminal charges until he pleaded guilty and who remains in touch with members of Madoff's family, declined to comment.
"It was decided a while ago that I cannot comment about his physical or emotional condition," Sorkin said.
Five former Madoff employees are currently on trial in New York on charges that they helped facilitate Madoff's scheme.
Earlier this month, JP Morgan Chase & Co, Madoff's longtime bank, agreed to pay $1.7 billion to settle charges from U.S. prosecutors that the bank violated anti-money laundering laws by failing to flag warning signs about Madoff's finances to authorities.
The trustee liquidating Madoff's firm has separately recovered just over $9.5 billion for victims of the fraud and has distributed more than half that amount.
Madoff pleaded guilty to operating the scheme in 2009.

Action Bronson: NY Radio Changed After Trinidad James' Comments
Trinidad James' inflammatory comments regarding the state of New York hip-hop from a few months back had rappers feeling some type of way. But have his comments done anything to change the state of the rap game in New York or was it all just empty jargon? Well, one prominent rising New York emcee is actually thanking James for saying what he said, and believes that the comments have impacted the New York radio.
Action Bronson, who recently dropped his acclaimed "Blue Chips 2" mixtape with Party Supplies stopped by RapFix Live and was interviewed by Sway Calloway. During the interview, Action Bronson spoke on Trinidad James' controversial comments. "At the end of the day, he probably didn't say it the way he wanted to say it and he was running his mouth a little something and he wants to make a little wave for himself and that's how you do it, you get people talking about you," Action said. "I'll tell you this. Since that, the climate of the radio has changed drastically. Now they want to play New York stuff, so, thank you. Bottom line. Whatever it is."
Bronson also reflected on his memories growing up in New York and why NY hip-hop plays such an importance on him and his own music. "Growing up, all I knew was New York stuff," he says. "Not to say anything wrong about any other place that was doing it, but it definitely started here as far as I know. Why is it that we're going away from where it started? Could it be the artists? Yes. Could it be money being made? Yes. There's just a lot of factors. Someone's gotta take a stance and grab their nuts."
What is your take on Action Bronson's comments on New York radio? Do you think it's changed since Trinidad James' controversial banter?

Fantasia's Friends Say She Is Suicidal Again After Being Dumped
Fantasia's friends are worried the American Idol alum will try and kill herself after her cheating boyfriend dumped her to go back to his estranged wife. Fantasia isn't coping well with the breakup and pals are worried she's having suicidal thoughts, according to Bossip.
Barrino's ex, Antwaun Cook, initially cheated on his wife Paula with Fantasia and left her and their two children for her, had a son with Fantasia, and then went back to his wife.
"Fantasia's friends are bracing for the worst. She isn't coping well with being dumped and she's saying crazy things, like she can't go on living without her man and that her life is over," an insider said.
"Fantasia thought that by having a child with Antwaun, she'd ensure he'd never reunite with Paula. But she was dead wrong. The parental responsibilities actually scared Antwaun away, and he never stopped secretly communicating with Paula."
Antwaun left Fantasia on Thanksgiving and has been back with Paula ever since. "She's been crying nonstop ever since and can barely get out of bed. Fantasia keeps muttering that this is karma coming back to bite her because she stole Antwaun from Paula," the source said.
In August 2010, Fantasia was hospitalized in North Carolina after officers responded to a suicide attempt when a friend found her in the closet of a home after "ingesting medication."
Fantasia fired back, setting the record straight with her fans, telling them she's not suicidal after the split with her ex-boyfriend "so stop trying to make me dead."
