Music executive Lyor Cohen is attempting to move with the times. Cohen is reportedly creating a music company which will be related to a major label, but will have independent label appeal.
The former Warner Music Group chief executive teamed up with Google for this new project, which will be associated with Atlantic Records. Apparently, the company will have all the distributing and marketing advantages of a major label, but will function as a more lenient independent label.
The move is smart, considering the changing twentieth-century music environment. Cohen has led white a bit in the music industry, becoming the first major label to license content to YouTube, and allowed YouTube to show Warner Music artists in exchange for advertising.
